Sharing a container
hi,
I have been researching sending my car home in a 20ft container back to South Africa, which I am hoping to do in the coming few weeks, Dublin to Cape Town.
For smaller, boxed items, based on initial investigations, it seems much more cost-effective than shipping tea-chests back, and I will personally be packing the container, and fragile items requiring special care, as some of mine are, will get special care.
If anyone has items, preferably boxes, could also be furniture, etc. they would like to send back, I would appreciate hearing from you - first come, first served.
Thanks
R

RE: Sharing a container
hi,
i've decided against the above - if you have not officially left south africa (ie. immigrated) you pay up to 40% tax on the value of the vehicle (need paperwork from dealers in Ireland stating the book value); a container to Cape Town costs around 4600 euro, and the paperwork needs to be sorted out before you send the vehicle - apart from the costs, I am leaving soon - see below, and i'll delete this message in the next few days:

Many thanks for your enquiry and we have requested Oman in Ireland to make contact with you in order to survey and let us have their quotation.

Please find attached all necessary information regarding importation of a vehicle into S.A. including application forms for Letter of Authority from SABS in Pretoria
Import Permit from ITAC in Pretoria
both of which must have been issued and received by you before the vehicle can be shipped from Ireland.

Copies must be given to Oman to include with their shipping documentation.

Please note the SARS information regarding returning S.A. residents importing vehicles to S.A. Please make contact with SARS with all relevant information to enable them to advise you whether you will have to pay duties and vat on your vehicle or not.

You will have to supply 3 independent valuations for market value from Motor Dealers in Ireland to produce to Customs.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information.

Kind Regards
