On the topic of swapping and giving away I'd like to recommend two websites that I have found useful since buying my own place - http://www.jumbletown.ie and the 'Free Trade' section of http://www.dublinwaste.ie - both of these websites cater for people wanting to GIVE AWAY items for free, from furniture and kitchen appliances to clothes and even cars. I have used them to get rid of things like a dining room table/chairs and other bits and pieces. Far better than just chucking stuff out and a great resource if you have moved into an unfurnished place. Dublin Waste is for Dublin exclusively while Jumbletown is nationwide. Jumbletown has a 'Wanted ' section where people place requests for items.
