Unusual artworks are crafted from a variety of mediums such as lead-free pewter, glass, handmade African textiles, paintings, beads and wire - which come in a number of shapes and sizes e.g. CD stands, wire beaded keyrings, wire picture frames, baskets, vases, spice racks, egg cups, beaded sculptures, fruit baskets, in fact the scope and range of wire art products is almost limitless, if you can think it we can make it. Children's (or even adult) tin cars, helicopters, Vespas' to name but a few, made from recycled tins, along with various animals. Let us know what you're looking for, we'll find it for you or get it made.

The sculpting and crafting of works of art using wire, beads, tin cans and other recycled goods as a medium is truly and uniquely South African. No-one is exactly certain how wire art came about. The most likely origins of this art form are the tranquil hills of Maputuland and Zululand in rural Northern Kwazulu-Natal, in the North-East corner of South Africa. For many years, due to a lack of resources to buy proper toys, the young herdboys of these regions have been fashioning their own out of discarded coat hanger wire, tin cans and whatever else they can get their hands on. Their ingenuity is quite amazing, basically anything that can be recycled, all adding to colourful & diverse culture of South Africa.

Another art is Zulu baskets, each one unique and lovingly hand-stitched. In this age of modern technology and mass production, it is a joy to see and feel the dignified elegance and beauty of a rich Zulu heritage that has become a collectable art-form, preserving an age-old tradition proudly safeguarded and handed down through the generations.
